Welcome to our vintage BMX Flatland Freestyle site. Our collection pretty much started on April 28, 2007. Looking to ride some and preserve one for our in-house mock BMX museum/shop. Also don't mock the color schemes. We are paying homage to the loud extrovert manly pastel colors of the 1980s :-) Luckily i'm still a pack-rat as our original HUTCH Trickstar and Diamond Back Cool Streak from BITD was SAVED FROM THE GRAVE all but our beloved BMX Scorpion. Tossed out during our remodel.
Our short story on how it started. My 1st bike was a BMX Scorpion in chrome with a blue padset [was tossed out a a few weeks ago before we knew anything about restoration or vintage BMX values]. Value is secondary. Most important are the memories associated with the bike. As always buy and build what you love. If it appreciates in value somehow consider that a BONUS. I always wanted a dedicated Freestyle Flatland bike ie HUTCH Trickstar or Redline RL-20 II but money was the issue. Parents bought the BMX Scorpion for $199.99 + tax from our local bike shop: Balboa Cyclery [now DD Cycles]. Don't recall the exact year or time when we bought this but can assume sometime around 1984?. At the time i just started to skateboard too: Freestyle and Street. Was not good in either but truly admired the sport. OK now onward to our hangout and place to ride: Golden Gate Park. WOW the mecca to both sports. Curb Dogs, the local group caught my eyes esp. by the late great founder Dave Vanderspek [Vander or The Flying Dutchman]. A tribute site http://www.mauricemeyer.com/curb_dogs/ to Vander from his buddy and fellow Skyway rider Maurice Meyer who still resides in San Francisco today! At that time of my life he was the only person we saw that could skate and freestyle. He applied tricks to both sports. An innovator and a person whom I look up to still to this day. Dave was taken from us on October 29, 1988. Drug problems, suicide? ;-( I was a junior in high school then and did not know anything about Dave's his death till sometime in mid to late 2007!!!! Holy crap my world was turned upside down. I rode for a few years and then it was onwards to other things: girls, break dancing, girls, cars, work and more girls :-) etc. The internet which i've been on since the 1980s I never thought much about my past. Well eBay came around and i signed up on November 7, 1997. Never looked back. Never did we expect to find so much crap from our childhood that we couldn't afford then. We pretty much bought all the stuff i wanted as a kid and then some. The value is sentimental over investment. Our motto is "Buy what you love and if it's worth more then paid consider that a BONUS!"
THANKS: A huge thank you to both the BMX Flatland and Skateboard community: Powell Peralta the Search for Animal Chin movie, local San Francisco skaters e.g. Tommy Guerrero and flatlanders, Curb Dogs and Golden Gate Park were the influences :-) Maurice and Ray Meyer [WANTED: Whose has his Peanut Butter Santa Cruz Freestyle board for sale?], Dave Vanderspek founder of Curb Dogs and inventor of the Vander Roll [RIP. Miss ya Golden Gate Park showmanship ;-( ] URL here> http://www.mauricemeyer.com/curb_dogs/, Robert Peterson [Master of Balance], Rick Allison [RIP], Martin Aparijo, Eddie Fiola, Woody Itson, RL Osborn, Mike Dominguez, Brian Scura of SST, Matt Hoffman, Dennis McCoy, Kevin Jones, Chase Gouin and many more. Also to our local bike shop: Balboa Cyclery [RIP], to the kicka*** flatlander [Mark?] at 39th Ave in the Richmond District whom sold us the baby blue Trickstar frame for $50 then and lastly to the 2 sponsored riders of OZONE whom we meet while i was working at the Stow Lake Boat House. Forgot your names completely!! [contact me if you see this]. We are still located in the Bay Area San Francisco, CA 94121. Looking to rekindle the 80s - 90s BMX Flatland past.
Our best friends are SunTour Coaster brake Hubs with the ACS Freecoaster conversion kit :-)
